The Helmholtz Association's Integrative Concept of Sustainable Development was developed in 2001 under the leadership of the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS). The concept considers many different divisions together, from health protection and the use of renewable energy sources to the fair involvement of people in decision-making processes.
Quartier Zukunft has presented the most important core considerations of the concept clearly and concisely in a leaflet. The focus is on 15 sustainability rules. Each rule is accompanied by an illustration and a short description and is assigned to one of three Divisions:
- Securing human existence
- Maintaining society's ability to manufacture products or provide services
- Preserving options for development and action
