Activities

At Quartier Zukunft, a wide range of activities spanning the entire spectrum of urban life will take place as part of our journey towards a culture of sustainability. These initiatives are already underway in the neighborhood. Do you have new ideas and want to bring it to life? Great, because we’re all about getting involved!

Cargo Bike Rental

Whether it’s a folding bike, a heavy-duty cargo bike, or a cargo bike trailer: Our cargo bikes are perfect for anyone looking to change their daily routines and, for example, leave the car at home more often. We’re also the right choice for those who simply want to try out cargo biking or who regularly transport larger items around the city. All private individuals, residents, and business owners in Karlsruhe can rent our cargo bikes free of charge. The rental period is a minimum of two weeks and a maximum of four weeks. We accept inquiries and reservations via email. Or you can stop by the Zukunftsraum. More

Clothing Swap Party

You’ve probably been there: Your closet is bursting at the seams, and it’s time to declutter. At a clothing swap party you can pass on clean, well-maintained items and take home something new. This not only saves you money but also helps the environment. To ensure nothing goes to waste, please bring a maximum of ten items. As is customary at our swap parties, there’s plenty of time for socializing over coffee and conversation. Since 2015, we’ve been hosting a clothing swap party at the Zukunftsraum once or twice a year. We announce the dates in our event calendar and newsletter.

Plant Swap

Do you have cuttings, seedlings, or seeds looking for a new home? Since 2016, a plant swap has been held regularly in spring at the Zukunftsraum. You can bring plants and vegetable varieties for raised beds, gardens, or balconies. In a cozy atmosphere, you can chat with like-minded people. In addition, a small garden flea market offers everything you need for gardening, such as gardening books, flower pots, or tools. We announce the dates in our event calendar and newsletter.

Outdoor Living Room

The concept: Bring life to the public space in front of your home, set up a small table and chairs outside your door, enjoy coffee and cake, and strike up a conversation with your neighbors and passersby. Quartier Zukunft has already organized an open-air living room in Karlsruhe’s Oststadt district several times, inviting residents to take a break from their daily routines, interact with their neighbors, and discover life right on their doorstep. On the day of the event, there will also be a small supporting program for all ages in the Zukunftsraum. More

My Self-Experiment

Just leave the car at home for a while. Go without animal products for a month. Slow down your lifestyle and focus on what really matters. We encourage people to start a self-experiment by working with citizens to develop personalized self-experiments and providing scientific guidance and advice as they carry out their experiments. Want to conduct your own self-experiment? At the Zukunftsraum, you can pick up a guide, a postcard, or other materials. More

Parking spaces in urban areas

On International Park(ing) Day, public parking spaces are transformed for a day into small, green, lively islands in the middle of the city. Where cars usually park, space is created for socializing, leisure, and relaxation. Quartier Zukunft has frequently participated at Oststadt with its own initiatives. For example, with a test track for our cargo bikes, a painting and craft corner for children, music, and an information booth on solar panel systems for balconies. Park(ing) Day takes place worldwide every year on the third weekend in September. Learn more about Park(ing) Day in Karlsruhe here.
