KLIMA.LÄND.TAGE at Zukunftsraum: "Signs to the Future"
As part of KLIMA.LÄND.TAGE 2026, a growing art installation made from so-called waste is taking shape in the "Zukunftsraum." Visitors can get involved and become part of the artwork.
Every day, countless tea bags are discarded worldwide after a single use. They bear traces of a moment of tranquility, an encounter, a conversation, or a quiet thought. What is considered waste becomes the starting point for a shared narrative about responsibility, resources, and the future.
The work of eco-art artist Renate Helene Schweizer combines art, sustainability, upcycling, social dialogue, cultural participation, and scientifically relevant questions about resources and consumption. The installation grows with every contribution. Each new tea bag alters the overall picture. This makes it clear: Major changes arise from many small decisions.

A Social Art Project Inviting Public Participation
The installation “Signs for the Future” can be viewed at the Zukunftsraum from Friday, September 18, through Friday, October 9, 2026 (see below for the supporting program). With this work, Schweizer creates an open space for people of all generations and backgrounds to come together. It also builds on her decades-long artistic practice using used tea bags, translating it into a contemporary form of social participation. By actively participating in the art project, people don’t merely consume a message – they create it themselves.
How can I get involved?
Come to the “Zukunftsraum,” have a cup of tea, or bring your own used tea bag. After drinking your tea, answer a single question:
- “What small action can change our shared future?”
Write your answer (anonymously) on a small card. Then hang your message, along with the tea bag, on the installation. Little by little, all the individual contributions will come together to form a vibrant picture of hope.

“Signs for the Future” will be open to visitors from Friday, September 18, through Friday, October 9, 2026. Admission and participation are free.

About Renate Helene Schweizer
An internationally active eco-art artist from Karlsruhe. For over 20 years, she has been exploring themes such as sustainability, resources, community, and social responsibility through participatory art projects. Her works combine art, dialogue, and civic engagement, inviting people to come together and create visible symbols for a future worth living.
Renate Helene Schweizer’s latest exhibition “DemokraTEA-Time: 20 Years of Commitment to Cultural Diversity” ran in May and June at Zukunftsraum.
